Tribal Law

This is something I've been working on sporadically in between jobs. It's sort of a companion piece to the Tribal Tech image I posted not too long ago. I decided to finish it or at least get close to finishing it before I head back home for Christmas. I think I'm happy with where it is right now, but I do look forward to tuning it up when I get back to NY with fresh eyes. Happy holidays!

Hey buddy, great stuff as always. Only things I would tighten up are the background and way the dead body meets the ground. Might be cool to give the environment an extra level of attention and detail since the figures are spare and striking. Make the boldness of those figures really pop.

Really into this mysterious folklore stuff you're coming up with-- seems a lot like a personal advancement of what you were doing a few years back. Love the girl with the flower.

A striking piece of artwork Jeremy!

I do agree with Sam though! The characters have a lot of detail going on, they are in contrast with the background (both in color and detail). Which is a good thing since they deserve the eyes attention.

However I do think that a little bit more color in background would make this piece even more striking. Perhaps a bit of vegetation that differs in color... Or just some spontaneous simple brushstrokes with another color ( like a little accent).

Overall I'm really amazed at how good you are! The characters show a great emotion. I love how the guy (who's holding the head) looks at the dead body. You can see him think about his recent actions. The girl with the flower has almost a mixed emotion. The girl sitting against the tree is probably gonna get laid later that day ;).

So yeah, great piece mate! Keep up the kick ass work.

Excellent. My favorite parts are the headpieces.

Thanks so much guys.

Sam and Brun, I totally agree. I usually focus most of my attention on the figures and my backgrounds are almost always minimal, but I wanted to force myself to paint an actual scene. The more I look at it, the more the figures seem to be separate from the environment. I think I'm going to do a bit of studying from the pre-raphaelites, namely Millais and his Ophelia painting.

Julian - thanks! I always have trouble coming up with a number for how long stuff like this takes me. I worked on it on and off for a few weeks. An hour here, 4 hours there.

Wicked anatomy and form with hints of a mysterious folklore almost has a biblical feeling to it I'm lookinf forward to seeing to being brought even further.

Thanks again guys! Yea, I'm getting more antsy here at home, waiting to get back to NYC to work on this. The more I look at it, the more flaws I see. Really rushed it towards the end there, hahah
